Broke Down Truck © 2019 W. Dire Wolff
- Old broken-down truck in an old parking lot
- Shuffle through the ashtray for the change that I got
- Bought me drink and a cheap granola bar
- Pack of rolling papers, headed back to car
- Put in drive, headed down the road
- Rolled me a fatty, to loosen my load.
- Didn’t know why the people were there
- Sitting by the river, but they just didn’t seem to care
- Watching the fires burning there.
- Couldn’t drive my truck home
- Because the roads they were closed
- The trucks had water but they wanted a hose
- People in town they just didn’t know what to do
- They were wearing masks for Covid, talking about the flu.
- I didn’t know why these people were there
- They sat by the river; they just didn’t seem to care
- Watching the fires burning there.
- I don’t what fire is burning inside me now
- I got to try to help these people somehow.
- Some folks can’t tell heaven from hell
- When you are driving through the fires
- You can’t really tell
- But if it is your house is burning
- You’re going to give a damn
- You should still care for another woman or man.
- Didn’t know why the people were there
- Sat by the river, they just didn’t seem to care
- Watching the fires burning there.
